
Who’s 5K?

Randy Thomas is a wildlife biologist, photographer, and filmmaker from Detroit, Michigan who has dedicated his life to capturing moments outside of the comfort zone. As a wildlife biologist, Thomas has traveled to over 10 countries, documenting wildlife and adventurous moments in nature in the name of science.
Thomas is uniquely qualified to create his brand of adventure photography which informs and generates an artistic connection with wild subjects in natural conditions. His work delivers audiences to a unique experience. Thomas’ thrilling and evocative imagery is only a stepping stone as he progresses in the field of documentary photography and wildlife education. His goal is to bridge the gap between wildlife and humanity through imagery, visuals, education, adventure and outreach.
The story behind the name “5K” dates back to 2011. Starting off as a funny nickname given by his friends, Randy eventually embraced and reshaped its meaning entirely.
As a student athlete, leader, brother and friend, Randy held (and holds) many hats. Yet only a close few knew about his longing quest for adventure.
In 2018, after have traveled to several countries while in college, it was brought to his attention to begin documenting his journey and giving a different perspective behind his experiences. Randy’s endeavors were uncommon where he’s from— and it was an opportunity to show others that there’s a way.

Currently in California, Randy strives to expose and educate his community about the the natural world.
